LIVING IN MARKHAM
Markham is a city located just north of Toronto in the Regional Municipality of York. It is part of the Greater Toronto Area and has a population of just over 301,000. Markham is the fourth largest community within the GTA after Toronto, Mississauga and Brampton.The area is bounded by 5 municipalities; to the west is Vaughan; to the north, Richmond Hill; to the south Toronto; and to the east Whitchurch–Stouffville and Pickering.
Markham is home to many of southern Ontario's technology businesses with IBM being it's largest employer. It is also home to Honda Canada, Advanced Micro Devices, American Express, Johnson & Johnson, Apple Inc., Avaya, Motorola, Oracle, Honeywell and Toshiba.
Markham is known for it commitment to preserving it’s heritage homes. This dedication is exemplified in the Markham Village Estates subdivision located at Sixteenth Avenue and Highway 48. This unique subdivision is home to more than 20 century homes that were saved from the onset of urban sprawl and relocated to this site. These historical homes have been lovingly restored by their owners who purchase their lots from the City of Markham and had to adhere to strict restoration guidelines set down by the Markham heritage planning department.
Markham is also proud of its three landmark heritage conservation districts. They are: Markham Village located north of Highway 7 at Markham Road, Unionville Village at Highway 7 and Kennedy Road, and Thornhill Village at Yonge and John Streets.
The area is very popular with new families and those new to Canada with both Chinese and South Asian ranking highest among its populations.

For those with children, there are many schools in the area including; Father Michael McGivney Catholic Academy, Central Park Public School, Markville Secondary School, St. Edward Catholic Elementary School, Unionville High School, St. Augustine Catholic High School and Seneca College.
